Do you want to know what burns me? Yes, you're right, a lot of things get my knickers into various knot! But, what do I think is more appauling?
My hometown paper in Summerside, only seems to be interested in reporting about Locals that have done good, if that means the individual did well in sports, or maybe a showcase at the ECMA's.
I'm here to shout as loudly as I can "THERE ARE TONS OF US MAKING THE SCENE FROM PEI AND THE JOURNAL DOESN'T CARE!"
I could name a number of them right now, all in the arts, all doing something magnificent. A few are important lawyers heading up international law firms, battling international cases even! But, does the Journal Pioneer care about little more than their sports stars? Today they do! Today, they care about a gas station closing in Hunter River.
Recently walking away as the new face of KMS California haircare, I was shocked that I heard from so many media outlets but the one on PEI. And, I did send them a press release before leaving for NY.
This is a strong reason why so many of us leave PEI, why there's so little celebrity buzz, and why I may just stop saying I'm "Just a smalltown girl from PEI".
If PEI doesn't care, then, I don't care.

SWEET! I GOT A FLAME!
Suck on it bitch! haha!
So maybe 10 people lose a job, well the current state of employment in Canada shows that the average individual's dream of steady long term employment is long gone.
Reform to EI is imparative to fall in line with part-time and contract employment. The closing of the gas station is simply a reflection of the times. But, that was not shared in the article was it?

Ok, well I won't be so harsh on you, I am also from PEI, been living on Ontario for 7 years now. I have to say, that one of the things I appreciated about PEI was it's simplicity, beauty, fresh salt air, and the fact that it is the most humble place to live in this country.
If you were still living on the island, doing what it is you are doing and making a difference in your community, you would be known.
PEI is unique, as is its' people, we really don't bother with the Paris Hilton's of the world (I'm not saying that's what you are, it's just an example). We bother with the lady down the road who cooked meals for the single mum who fell ill etc...
I am a college student in North Bay and my recent instructor, Mike Paris who worked in radio in Halifax in the 1970's had said to me, that the people on the East Coast are the most "real". He loved it there!

attention whore, media whore... hmm what else could I say?
All accurate representations of who I am.
But, Anonymous, who are you?
Michelle, you're right people from the east coast are genuine, but, they do look for their own superstars. And, in a world of pop idols and people gaining fame through sex scandels, it's important to focus on individuals who are forging a life on positivity to be an advocate and role model.
I'll make a post out of this for you.

Frankly, I find your comments "Appalling".
You are complaining when a LOCAL newspaper prints stories about LOCAL events that concern people LOCALLY. The closing of the gas station has a real effect on people's lives. People are out of work because of this. I think that you have a bit of an over-inflated ego. You need to realize that becoming a spokesperson for haircare products doesn't make you a celebrity, it makes you a relatively unknown model.
Unless you do something like, I don't know, compete in the Olympics, people just won't care.
